چکیده مقاله
The development of recyclable heterogeneous acid catalysts is a major focus in sustainable energy research, particularly for biodiesel production. In this study, a novel sulfonic acid functionalized metal-organic coordination polymer (MOCP) catalyst, Cu L@SO₃H, was synthesized via solvothermal reaction of Cu(NO₃)₂·3H₂O with ligand L, followed by post-synthetic sulfonation. The heterogeneous catalyst, bearing accessible –SO₃H groups, was comprehensively characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDX, and TGA, confirming successful functionalization and structural stability. The Cu L@SO₃H catalyst exhibited high activity in the esterification of various fatty acids, including oleic, palmitic, myristic, and lauric acids, achieving biodiesel yields above 90% under mild and solvent-free conditions. Furthermore, the catalyst efficiently converted recycled cooking oil into biodiesel, demonstrating practical applicability. Importantly, Cu L@SO₃H could be easily recovered by centrifugation and reused for at least four cycles with minimal loss of activity. This work highlights the potential of sulfonated ligand-based copper coordination polymers as efficient, recyclable, and environmentally friendly heterogeneous acid catalysts for sustainable biodiesel production.
