| چکیده مقاله |
| Wind erosion is one of the most important land degradation processes in arid and semi-arid regions [1]. This phenomenon has affected about one-sixth of the world's land surface. This study evaluates the environmental safety and sustainability of a heavy semi-petroleum mulch produced by the Bitumen and Oil Refining Company. The main objective is to determine the acceptability of this mulch for wind erosion control and dust suppression without causing a hazard to the study area. To achieve this objective, the concentrations of heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the sample were measured according to ASTM D6596 and ISO 17993 standards. The results obtained were then compared with the permissible thresholds determined in Table 4-2 of the Soil Stabilizers (Mulches) Technical Guidelines 783 [2]. The findings of this study showed that the concentrations of the pollutants measured in the studied mulch were below the permissible limits. Based on the results of tests conducted by the Motamed Laboratory on semi-heavy oil mulch, all indicators related to heavy metals such as nickel (21 mg/kg), vanadium (48 mg/kg), lead, chromium, zinc, cadmium (all less than 1 mg/kg), arsenic and mercury (less than 100 µg/kg) are significantly lower than the acceptance limits set in the Technical Guidelines for Evaluating the Efficiency of Soil Stabilizers (Mulch). Also, polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAHs) such as naphthalene, acenaphthalene, phenanthrene (1.2 ppm), pyrene and benzo(a)pyrene (all less than 1 ppm) are also lower than the permissible limits, indicating the environmental safety of this mulch for combating wind erosion and dust. |
