| Abstract: The azo-oxime (E)-1-alkyl-4-((4-hydroxy-3-((hydroxyimino)methyl)phenyl)diazenyl) pyridinium iodide (2) were prepared by condensation reaction of 4-((3-formyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)azo)-1-alkylpyridinium iodide (1) and hydroxylamine hydrochloride in methanol. The chemical structure of the synthesized compounds is confirmed by various spectral and analytical methods compounds have a new resonant structure compared to corresponding azo precursor. Incorporation of the oxime moiety significantly affected electronic structure and biological activity, demonstrating that these compounds are promising candidates for applications in dye chemistry and medicinal chemistry. Antibacterial activity was assessed using disk diffusion and MIC assays, while antioxidant behavior was evaluated through the DPPH radical scavenging method. Geometry optimizations of monomeric, dimeric, and trimeric species were performed using UB3LYP with 6-31G (d,p) for light atoms and an appropriate ECP basis set for iodine. Selected bond lengths, angles, and dihedral angles were examined to evaluate the influence of the oxime group on molecular geometry. The monomer displays a nearly planar π-conjugated framework, consistent with its spectroscopic properties. |
