| Bitumen, as one of the basic components of asphalt concrete, plays a decisive role in influencing the durability and lifespan of asphalt pavement. In this study, two types of bitumen 60-70 and bitumen 85-100 of the penetrating bitumens produced by the company (PIRCO) were investigated. In the next step, these bitumens were modified with polymer and rubber powder and re-examined. We examined the chemical bonds of the base bitumen 60-70 as an example and the modified bitumens 60-70 by infrared spectroscopy and SEM surface imaging of these bitumens. We also examined the physical properties of bitumens 60-70 and 85-100 before and after modification. These findings help engineers to produce suitable and low-cost modified bitumens that have higher strength and lower degradation rate, and recycling tires can help protect the environment. |
