| چکیده مقاله |
| Electrochemical oxidation shares fundamental similarities with the catalytic action of the cytochrome P450 enzyme family, a key system for xenobiotic metabolism in living organisms. Both processes facilitate the oxidation of organic substrates through a mechanism involving the initial removal of electron, leading to the formation of reactive intermediates. Lippia citriodora (lemon verbena) is a medicinal plant abundant in phenolic and terpenoid compounds, offering a promising foundation for sustainable chemical processes [1,2]. In this work, the lippia citriodora extract was purposed as an environmentally benign electrolyte and reaction medium. Its redox characteristics were studied via cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential electrolysis. The results demonstrate that verbascoside, the primary component, underwent oxidation at the anode. The resulting intermediate then reacted in situ with various nucleophile (sulfinic acid and mercapto benzimidazole derivatives) as nucleophiles (Scheme 1). The final products were confirmed by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS) analysis. This integrated methodology successfully eliminated the need for toxic organic solvents and hazardous chemical oxidants. |
