Sustainable and one-pot Synthesis of 3-Amino-N-Benzyl-1-Aryl-1H-Benzo[f]Chromene-2-Carboxamides Using [BMIM][HSO4] Ionic Liquid

Subject: Multi-component reactions (MCRs) have demonstrated their efficacy as a unique and versatile tool in organic and medicinal chemistry. These reactions have been shown to synthesize diverse chemical libraries of pharmaceutical agents with higher efficiency and atom economy in a single step from three or more different starting materials reacting [1]. Ionic liquids (ILs) have been demonstrated to be efficient and sustainable solvents and catalysts, capable of promoting chemical reactions in solvent-free conditions [2, 3].
Objective: In this research, [BMIM][HSO4] was efficiently synthesized and subsequently utilized as a green catalyst for the synthesis of a wide range of benzo[f]chromene-2-carboxamides (4a–j) under solvent-free conditions (Scheme 1).
Method: Green synthesis of various benzo[f]chromene-2-carboxamides was achieved via a multi-component reaction of 2-naphthol (1 mmol), N-benzyl-2-cyanoacetamide (1 mmol), aromatic aldehydes (1.1 mmol), and [BMIM][HSO4] IL catalyst (10mol%) under solvent-free conditions.
Main Results: Various reaction parameters, including solvent, temperature, reaction time, and synthetic method were systematically optimized to achieve the best operational conditions. The structures of the synthesized heterocyclic products were fully characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, and as well as CHN elemental analysis.
Conclusion: The present work reaction offers several advantages, including a clean reaction, a metal-free transition, and an environmentally friendly approach to the preparation of different benzo[f] chromene-2-carboxamide derivatives. It also provides good yields, readily available starting materials, and does not require a cumbersome procedure.
