| Selective Oxidation of Sulfides Using Rh(III)/g-C₃N₄ Nanocomposite as an Efficient Visible-Light Catalyst |

| Recently, visible light-active photocatalysts have garnered increasing interest from researchers due to their potential applications in the facile synthesis of organic compounds and their promise in various fields, particularly environmental remediation, with the added advantage of low energy consumption. From an environmental perspective, it is essential to identify environmentally friendly photoredox catalysts that employ sustainable oxidants, aiming to minimize hazardous waste generation and enable highly efficient and selective production processes [1–5]. Conversely, the synthesis of various sulfoxide compounds continues to be a prominent topic in contemporary chemistry [6–8]. In this study, with the objective of promoting the oxidation of sulfides, a distinctive photocatalyst, Rh(III)/g-C₃N₄, was synthesized. Under visible-light irradiation, the Rh(III)/g-C₃N₄ composite demonstrated enhanced photocatalytic performance compared to pristine g-C₃N₄. The nanocomposite catalyst exhibited a remarkable improvement in photocatalytic activity due to efficient photogenerated electron transfer, improved charge-carrier separation, and extended optical absorption in the visible-light region. The findings of this study provide a fresh perspective on the synergistic effect of metal-modified photocatalysts in the oxidation of organic compounds. This work introduces a novel approach for developing a highly efficient photocatalyst capable of effectively oxidizing organic substrates. This newly developed heterogeneous photocatalyst demonstrates exceptional activity and selectivity in the oxidation of sulfides under visible-light irradiation. These features make the g-C₃N₄-supported Rh(III) organometallic complex a promising candidate for practical applications in the selective oxidation of sulfides. |
