| Oral management of insulin is desirable due to the convenience and increased submission to diabetic patients [1]. This blood sugar regulating hormone is sensitive to gastric enzymes and acids that destruct disulfide bonds, and thus insulin degradation or hydrolysis in gastrointestinal tract limits its effectiveness [2]. To overcome to this challenge, the recent developed pH-responsive carriers offered excellent potential as oral therapeutic systems by enhancing the stability of insulin delivery in stomach and achieving controlled release in intestines [3]. This problem motivates the development of oral insulin carriers based on natural materials such as cellulose to improve bioavailability of insulin [3]. Considering the green advantages of carbohydrate bio-polymers, in this research, we are looking for a nontoxic, biocompatible, bio-renewable, and low-cost cellulosic material to carryout oral insulin with minimum gastrointestinal hydrolysis and delivery. Therefore, cellulose was firstly modified by functionalization and the given product was used in oral insulin delivery by following with the analytical methods. |
