چکیده مقاله
Dietary antioxidants play a crucial role in protecting the human body against damage caused by free radicals. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) or free radicals are continuously generated through endogenous metabolic processes and during various pathological or physicochemical conditions. To maintain normal physiological function, a proper balance between free radical production and antioxidant availability is essential. Medicinal plants, being rich sources of natural antioxidants, can effectively support this balance and help counteract oxidative stress [1,2]. Among them, Calendula officinalis is a well-known medicinal plant that exhibits a wide range of therapeutic properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-healing activities. These effects are mainly attributed to its bioactive constituents, making its extracts valuable in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and traditional medicine applications.

In the present work the electrochemical oxidation of etanolic extract of Calendula officinalis flower. has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry techniques in the biological pH at the surface of glassy carbon electrode at various concentrations and scan rates. The results revealed that the extract had a unreversible redox reaction. Our results show that Calendula officinalis extract oxidize at low potentials in comparison of quercetin, gallic acid and salicylic acid as standard antioxidants. Antioxidant activities of this extract was evaluated using the 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging method and it is directly related to its redox potential value. The results show the good antioxidant activity of the Calendula officinalis extract and the electrochemical behavior of the constituents in it, at the surface of glassy carbon electrode.
