چکیده مقاله
In recent years, metal and metal oxide nanoparticles have been the most developed materials in the field of nanotechnology due to their adjustable morphology and physicochemical properties, small size and large surface area [1]. They have a variety of applications in different areas such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, biology, and the environment. Among these materials, copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) have attracted significant attention in scientific and industrial circles due to their exceptional catalytic, antibacterial and antifungal properties [2,3]. Green nanotechnology has become popular in the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles because of cost-effectiveness, simple preparation steps, and environmental friendliness.
In the present study, CuO nanoparticles were successfully prepared by treating copper sulfate with an aqueous extract of Satureja mutica at 80 °C for 1 h. The resulting nanoparticles were analyzed using UV–Vis spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) to determine their size, morphology, and structural properties. UV–Vis spectroscopy revealed a surface plasmon resonance band at 340 nm for CuO NPs. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of secondary metabolites, such as phenolic and flavonoid compounds, on the surface of CuO nanoparticles. The FESEM images showed that the biosynthesized CuO NPs were spherical in shape with an average particle size of 40 nm. It is noteworthy that bioactive substances such as phenolic compounds present in the Satureja mutica extract play a key role in the production of nanoparticles as reducing, stabilizing, and capping agents.
