| Design of a Robust Cr-Containing Keggin Polyoxometalate Catalyst and Its Application in Sustainable Benzothiazole Synthesis |

| The development of efficient catalytic systems for heterocyclic synthesis has attracted significant attention due to the synthetic, biological, and industrial importance of nitrogen– and sulfur-containing frameworks. Among these structures, benzothiazoles represent a valuable class of molecules with wide applications in pharmaceuticals, bioactive agents, and functional materials. Recently, polyoxometalates (POMs) have emerged as powerful inorganic clusters with remarkable redox features, structural tunability, and high stability, making them ideal candidates for catalytic transformations. In addition, their ability to be anchored onto carbon-based materials enhances dispersion, improves accessibility of active sites, and reduces mass-transfer limitations [1]. Herein, we report the synthesis of a chromium-containing Keggin-type polyoxometalate functionalized with carboxyl groups (POM-Cr) and its application as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of benzothiazole derivatives. Carboxylate functionalization not only strengthens the interaction between the POM framework and organic substrates through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic forces, but also significantly enhances the catalyst’s stability under reaction conditions [2]. The resulting Cr-containing POM catalyst exhibited excellent activity, high selectivity, and outstanding recyclability over at least five consecutive catalytic cycles thereby underscoring its strong potential for practical applications in organic synthesis (Scheme 1).
