| چکیده مقاله |
| Isopropyl palmitate is an emollient ester widely used in cosmetic products because of its properties and characteristics. It restores skin moisture and oil levels, has good spread ability, acts as an excellent solvent and dispersive medium in cosmetic formulations, and has a light and dry feel.[1] Scheme 1 illustrates the chemical structure of isopropyl palmitate. This study investigates the synthesis of isopropyl palmitate (IPP) and investigates how different catalysts affect the reaction efficiency, by measuring the acid value as a key performance indicator. IPP was produced by esterification of palmitic acid with isopropanol, where 1 wt% of the catalyst was employed. The reaction was carried out at 70–75 °C for 12 h using sulfuric acid, Amberlyst 15 and hypo phosphorous acid as catalysts. In this study, throughout the reaction, the acid value was monitored by periodically sampling the reaction mixture and titrating with 0.1 M sodium hydroxide.[2] the resulting products showed different acid values depending on the catalyst used, as shown in the table1. Among the catalysts evaluated, only sulfuric acid gave satisfactory performance, yielding an acid value below 1 mg KOH/g, a saponification value above 180 mg KOH/g. These results are consistent with a product purity of more than 95%. Overall, the findings indicate high conversion efficiency, excellent product purity, and favorable physicochemical properties. |
