Synthesis of Tetrahydrobenzoxanthene Derivatives by Using a Walnut Shell Composite as a Novel Heterogeneous Catalyst

Among the heterogeneous carbon catalysts, biochar nanoparticles, which are advanced porous solids produced through the pyrolysis of biomass and renewable resources under oxygen-limited conditions, has extensive array of functional groups on its surface with high surface area enhanced through various modification techniques, including treatment with acids, alkalis, oxidizing agents, and metal ions, which tailor the biochar for specific functions. Within this context, the present study is dedicated to investigating the viability and efficacy of specifically designed biochar as a catalyst for the synthesis of biologically important tetra hydro benzo xanthene derivatives, exploring its potential in facilitating this class of organic reactions.1,2 Many advanced properties including pharmaceuticals, natural products, and industrial compounds exist which have xanthene-based units. In addition, they can be utilized as fluorescent materials for dyes, laser technologies, pH sensors, and other devices.
