چکیده مقاله
The development of selective colorimetric and spectroscopic sensors for environmentally and nutritionally relevant anions remains a key objective in environmental and food-analysis research [1]. In the present work, an azo–azomethine ligand 1-{3-[(3-hydroxypropylimino)methyl]-4-hydroxyphenylazo}-4-chloro-3-nitrobenzene, synthesised by Ahmadi et al. [2], was employed as an efficient chromogenic receptor. The ligand exhibited a distinct and highly selective optical response toward cyanide ions (CN⁻) in a mixed water/acetonitrile solvent system.
UV–Vis spectrophotometric titrations revealed significant bathochromic shifts upon the addition of CN⁻(with different concentrations) (Figure 1a). Furthermore, Job’s plot confirmed the stoichiometric ratio of the formed complex. Interference experiments demonstrated strong selectivity toward CN⁻ over other common anions (Figure 1 b). The chemosensor was successfully utilized for cyanide detection in bitter almond samples, showing reliable analytical performance in a complex food matrix. Overall, these findings highlight the ligand as a low-cost, rapid-response, and highly effective chromogenic sensor for cyanide detection in environmental and food-related applications, reinforcing the utility of azo–azomethine frameworks in anion recognition [1–2].
