چکیده مقاله
Abstract:
In this study, the synthesis of polystyrene sulfonate (PSS), a polymeric surfactant, and its performance as a concrete plasticizer additive were investigated. Due to its ionic structure and surface-active characteristics, PSS can effectively improve concrete workability and reduce water demand. In the theoretical section, various synthetic pathways for PSS production, including direct sulfonation of polystyrene, polymerization of styrene sulfonic acid, and copolymerization approaches, were reviewed, and the reaction mechanisms and factors influencing physicochemical properties were discussed. In the experimental part, PSS samples were synthesized using different methods, and their structures were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (^1H NMR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and surface tension measurements. After structural confirmation, the synthesized polymer was tested in various concrete formulations to evaluate its plasticizing performance. The results demonstrated that PSS enhanced concrete flowability and reduced water content requirements without significant loss in compressive strength. Finally, by comparing the synthesis strategies and the performance of the resulting polymers, the most efficient route for preparing high-performance PSS suitable for concrete admixture applications was determined.
